Initial snapshot for MySQL binlog origin

Does the MySQL binlog origin obtain the initial snapshot from the MySQL master that it is following? The configuration for the origin only allows to start from the beginning of the binlog but the binlog may no longer have all the data. Is this functionality supported and how can it be triggered? If yes, is there any documentation on the process?

Has anyone figured this out? I have the same need. I'm surprised this is not a more common use-case...

In this case you might want to use the JDBC Multitable Consumer first to do the initial load and then use the MySQL binlog origin to get CDC
